Welcome to Saint John Parish

Once again Pope Francis has asked for a worldwide participation in his initiative: 24 Hours for the Lord. The Holy Father asked for at least one church in each diocese to have confessors available during that time while as many of the faithful as possible would pray before the Blessed Sacrament for the spiritual renewal, conversion, and reconciliation that is central to the season of Lent. In response to this initiative, the designated place for this 24 Hours for the Lord will be the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona. This Eucharistic adoration and confessions will be from 4 pm, Friday, March 16 until 4 pm, Saturday, March 17. People from throughout the diocese are encouraged as individuals, families, or groups to make a pilgrimage to the Cathedral for this special time of spiritual renewal. If it is not possible to come to the Cathedral, everyone is encouraged to attend Mass or visit their parish church during the 24 Hours for the Lord. This is a unique opportunity for all of us to be touched by God’s mercy.

We would like to place a greater focus on the Stations of the Cross, a venerated tradition in the Catholic Faith in which we journey with Christ to Calvary. Stations are observed each Friday of Lent at 7:00 PM. Mark your calendar, and plan to walk in the...
